End of Year Wrap

A Year of Connection, Community, and Care

As the year draws to a close, The Veterans’ & Families’ Centre reflects on what has truly defined the past twelve months. Beyond programs, appointments, or events, it has been the relationships formed, the conversations shared, and the moments of trust that continue to shape the heart of the Centre.

Throughout the year, veterans and families have connected with the Centre in many different ways. Some visited in person, others met staff and volunteers out in the community, at local events, craft sessions, and shows across Burnie, Circular Head, and surrounding regions. Whether through a planned activity or a simple chat over a cup of tea, each interaction helped strengthen a sense of belonging and reminded people that they are not alone.

Outreach has remained a vital part of this work. By meeting people where they are, the Centre has been able to make support more accessible and more personal. Being present in the community has reinforced the importance of listening, showing up, and creating spaces where veterans and their families feel welcomed, understood, and respected.

Access to timely and trusted mental health support has also been a key focus this year. Having Dr Andrew Clarke available on location in both Burnie and Launceston has made a meaningful difference for many individuals and families. His presence has helped ensure support is available close to home, reducing barriers and offering reassurance during difficult times.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team works every day to keep the Centre running and responsive to the needs of the community. From leadership and administration to reception, coordination, outreach, and governance, each staff member, board member, and volunteer contributes their experience, care, and commitment to the Centre’s mission.

The Centre is also deeply grateful for the work of its volunteer advocates, who play a critical role in supporting veterans and their families through the DVA claims process. Garry, Adrian, Jo, and Shea have given their time, knowledge, and compassion to help navigate what can often be a complex and overwhelming system. Their advocacy has provided clarity, reassurance, and practical support when it is needed most, making a real and lasting difference in the lives of those they assist.

Most importantly, the Centre would like to thank everyone who has been part of this journey. Whether you attended an event, reached out for support, partnered with the Centre, shared its work, volunteered your time, or simply stopped by to say hello, you are an essential part of this community. The Centre exists because of that shared trust and connection.

As the year comes to an end, the Centre remains guided by its core message.
United by service. Strengthened by family. Supported by community.

From Burnie and across Australia, thank you for being part of this year and for continuing to walk alongside The Veterans’ & Families’ Centre.
